Knowledge

Understanding QR Codes

What is a QR Code?
QR (Quick Response) codes are two-dimensional barcodes that store data in patterns of black and white squares. They can be scanned by cameras and decoded into text, URLs, or other data formats.
QR Code Capacity
QR codes can store up to 3KB of data—about 4,296 alphanumeric characters. However, smaller data creates simpler codes that scan more reliably. For most uses, keep content under 100 characters.
Error Correction Levels
QR codes have four error correction levels: L (7%), M (15%), Q (25%), H (30%). Higher levels allow the code to be read even if partially damaged or obscured, but result in denser patterns.
Quiet Zone
The quiet zone is the blank margin around a QR code. It helps scanners identify where the code begins. Without adequate quiet zone (at least 4 modules), scanning reliability decreases significantly.
Common QR Content Types
URLs are most common, but QR codes can encode: Wi-Fi credentials (WIFI:T:WPA;S:...), contact cards (vCard), calendar events (vCal), phone numbers (tel:), SMS (smsto:), and plain text.

FAQ

QR code generator FAQ

What can I put inside a QR code?
Any text works: URLs, Wi-Fi config, calendar links, contact cards, or short notes.
Which error correction level should I choose?
Use M for most cases. Pick H when printing small, using colors, or adding a logo so scans stay reliable.
Why does the quiet zone matter?
A clear margin helps scanners detect the edges. Keep at least 2-4 modules of padding.
Can I customize colors safely?
Yes, but keep strong contrast (dark foreground on light background) to avoid scan failures.
How big should I export for print?
For small stickers, 300-400 px usually works; go larger for posters or if the code will be viewed from farther away.
Is any of my data sent to a server?
No. Generation happens fully in the browser without network requests.
Can I reuse the image offline?
Yes. Download the PNG and reuse it anywhere; the data URL is also copyable for embedding.
How do I generate a Wi‑Fi QR?
Enter WIFI:T:WPA;S:SSID;P:password;; as the text. Use T:nopass for open networks, add H:true for hidden ones, and escape semicolons/backslashes as \; or \\.
